I've been doing this ride several times a year since around 2005. I've got
pictures of some of the earlier rides salted away in the wayback machine somewhere.
One of these days I'll get around to posting them.

My 2010 ride is posted HERE.

The 2011 Spring opener ride to Glenwood is posted HERE.

Our 2012 ride is posted HERE. Our Spring 2013 ride is HERE.

Our Summer 2013 ride is HERE. The 2013 Finale is HERE.

Our 2014 rides are HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE..

Washington State Highway 14 east to White Salmon. Left (North) on 141 to BZ Corner
Right onto the BZ-Glenwood Hwy to Glenwood. Turn right at Glenwood and follow the
highway along the Klickitat River (great views!) to the junction of hwy 142. Right
(west) on 142 to Lyle (more great views!). State Highway 14 west back to Portland.

If you'd like to tag along, E-mail me for assembly point times and locations.

The young couple who bought the place from Jerry couldn't make a go of it so they
sold it. The new owner couldn't make it either. The joint is now closed looking
for someone to take it on as a lease. I'm guessing that the people who bought it
from Jerry paid WAAAAAAY too much for it. He was asking a million bucks when I
inquired about buying the business (which includes the small motel and market).
The debt service alone would probably be around $7,000+ per month... no way you
could sell enough burgers and coffee in a small town like Glenwood to stay afloat.
I'm guessing that the fair market lease amount for that size restaurant in that
area would be less than $1,000 per month. Which would be way less than the owner
is probably paying the bank every month. So... bankrupcy may be in his future.....
which is a shame because both sets of new owners worked very hard to make the place
a success. We were just there recently and there was no indication of problems.

Hopefully the joint will re-open so that I can get a yummy club sandwich and fries
again when we come by in the future. But that's questionable to say the least. The
restaurant in BZ Corner used to be pretty good but after a succession of owners
the place seems to be permanently closed now. There's a half way decent restaurant
in Trout Lake but other than that you have to go to Goldendale or Bingen to find a
good meal (Sodbusters or Killer Burger).

UPDATE: The place has yet another new owner! They've renamed the motel, market and
fuel business "Glenwood Station". They apparently have no plans to re-open the
restaurant and are hoping to find someone who will lease the space. We shall
see I guess.

DIRECTIONS

The trees on my street will be bare in a few more days. This is definitely it as
far as 2014 foliage rides are concerned. Supposed to get cold and windy next week...

11/13/14 Update: Glenwood got a foot of snow over the past couple of days. The roads
out that way will most likely be impassable for motorcycles until at least March.

It was a bit on the chilly side this morning. Never really warmed up much. It
wasn't so cold stopped in the bright sun but going down the road was downright nippy.
VERY foggy (near zero visibility) until we got past Cape Horn.

Too cold to stop much but there was some really good color on this ride. The
trees will probably be completely bare in a few days and I'm guessing there will
be snow up this way in a week or two. No complaints though... it's very rare when
the weather and roads are good enough for a Glenwood ride this late in the season.

Here's more pictures of today's Glenwood Foliage Ride.
