This climb is on the radar for 2012 but who knows if it will actually happen.
The reason I am taking the Mazama BCEP mountain climbing course is so that Julie
and I will be able to do some of these more advanced, non-technical climbs safely.
Currently planning to do this one in late August/early September, probably in between
our two scheduled Mount St Helens climbs.

GETTING THERE: SR 141 to Trout Lake. Bear right at the Chevron gas station. In several
miles you will see the first of several "South Climb" signs. Just follow them to
the trailhead. The first few miles are a one lane, paved road. After that, it's
compacted dirt with some small gravel... but not that big, jagged stuff that rips
your tires to shreds. It gets very dusty if there are other vehicles around though.
It's about 12 miles to the trailhead from the Trout Lake highway turn-off.

TURNS:. Branch off on to FR-80, FR-8040 and then FR-8040-500 following all signs for
the "South Climb". These are all one lane roads

A Cascade Volcano Pass is required - $15 one time, $30 annual.

UPDATE: 9/7/12: There are some major forest fires buring in the Trout Lake area.
The Forest Service is evacuating everyone from the area and all of the access roads
and climbing routes for Mount Adams are closed.
