It's been a while since we did
Eagle Creek.
Usually too crowded for our tastes.

Loowit Falls
If you like waterfalls, you'll like the Eagle Creek hike. If you don't like
people, you'll want to hit the trailhead EARLY!
Lots of rain the past few weeks and warm temperatures mean that the snow pack is
melting big time. This means that Eagle Creek and the many waterfalls along this
trail should be roaring!
The hike to Twister Falls (and beyond) is easy but long. It's pretty much
impossible to get lost out here. However, there is a small degree of exposure
so idiots do have a habit of falling off a ledge now and then.
The Eagle Creek trail as far as Tunnel Falls was built 100 years ago as part of
the Historic Columbia River Highway project. You can still see concrete on some
of the early sections. Note the handrails. This was probably quite the outing
back when automobiles were a new thing.
Left the trailhead at first light, 07:00. Still, even at that early hour on a
weekday, I was not alone. And of course by the time I got back to around High Bridge
it was wall-to-wall Obama lovers and their off-the-leash mutts.
This is the perfect time of year to do this hike and it was a gorgeous day. All
that heavy rain and then warmer weather melting the snowpack really has Eagle
Creek roaring. It was white water and roaring falls all the way. In fact
Eagle Creek was so high it was only a couple of feet lower than the road!
Viewing Punchbowl Falls from the lower punchbowl viewpoint is impossible this
time of year due to deep and fast running water. Figured it was worth a side trip
to check all the same.
Punchbowl Falls
The next few are not falls.... they are sections of Eagle Creek!
This creek crossing was a LOT more difficult than it looks in this picture!
